VINNIE PAUL IS GONNA BE ON THE NEW BRET MICHAELS ALBUM

Bret Michaels is making a new solo album, which is called Get Your Rock On, because it’s a Bret Michaels album, and that kind of title is generally considered to be not-embarrassing by Bret Michaels fans. And Michaels has taken full advantage of his ever-increasing celebrity by enlisting Ace Frehley and Michael Anthony to play on a re-recording of Poison’s “Nothin’ But a Good Time” and Joe Perry to play on a re-recording of Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” And yes, it’s weird that Michaels is re-recording Poison songs with musicians who are superior to the members of Poison, but that’s not the part that’s going to make IMNs everywhere foam at the mouth.

Nope, the news which I suspect will really get the interwebs cap lockin’ is that Vinnie Paul is going to play on the album, too… although whether he’s doing another Poison cover or something else has yet to be announced.

To my own surprise, I am not upset by this news. It might be because too many years of Paul playing with Hellyeah has now numbed me to any ill-advised creative decisions he might make, or it might be because of all the handful of barbiturates I just swallowed, I’m not sure. But I am sure that I would rather go see Poison than Hellyeah anyway, so this is almost, like, a step in the right direction. And not that anyone ever seems to forget this, but, y’know, Pantera started as a glam band. So Paul is really just going back to his roots.

In any case, I’m sure I’ll ramble about this more once the song has been completed and is streaming somewhere. In the meantime, enjoy this video of Paul and Michaels singing “Nothin’ But a Good Time” on stage together  in Richardson, Texas in 2008:
