Somebody That The Dillinger Escape Plan Used To Know

Kimbra / Ben Weinman

Over the summer news broke that Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman was collaborating on a track with Kimbra, the native New Zealander singer/songwriter whose sultry voice is behind the female lead in Gotye’s early 2012 smash “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

Turns out that the collaboration talk wasn’t just fluff: Weinman joined Kimbra onstage for one song during her CMJ Music Marathon showcase last night at New York City’s Webster Hall. Check out fan-filmed footage below, in which Weinman makes his appearance in the guitar solo about halfway through:

Pretty good song, yeah? Kimbra’s music in general is a really solid mix of soul, funk, R&B and pop that reminds me a bit of Zero Seven songstress Sia. This song, “Come Into Your Head,” is on her new album Vows, which you can stream in full on Spotify, but it’s not nearly as energetic and rock-y in that form as it is in the live clip with Weinman.

Three cheers for Weinman still doing his patented up-and-down guitar swing even during music significantly less frenetic than Dillinger’s.
