Hardcore Superstar
C’Mon Take On Me (Nuclear Blast)
Release date – March 1, 2013

Hardcore Superstar are well-known to ME because I am a rabid fan, but sadly, not yet household names outside of Sweden. Since last year was abysmally dull in terms of sleaze, I’m basically hopping in my seat for this new album that’s already available for pre-order on the band’s website.

It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll, their first album, was released in 1997, and introduced the band as a raw, Stooges-influenced punk rock beast. Over the years, Hardcore Superstar has evolved into an odd mix of punk, thrash, and sleaze. Three genres that aren’t technically supposed to get along — but they nail it with their unbelievably riff-happy hooks and drunk-chant choruses. Their 2001 release, Thank You (For Letting Us Be Ourselves), was the turning point as they toned down the gutter punk vitriol and introduced a heavier, slightly more polished, sound.

However, 2005’s self-titled release, their so-called “Black Album,” is probably HCSS’s definitive record in terms of capturing their sound. It’s song after song of screeching energy. Personally, I think they just get better and better, and this is said as someone who is very easily displeased. Dreamin’ in a Casket from 2007 and Beg For It from 2010 have some of my favorite songs on them, including “Sensitive to the Light,” and  “Guestlist.” Both with their typical pounding relentless fun happy rock’n’roll party time beat.

The first single is available only Scandinavian iTunes ,but you can listen to it below. It’s not quite what I was expecting, but I’m fan enough to contentedly devour the rest of the album when I get my hands on it.
