Howard Jones On His New Band: “It’s a Different Style of Music for Me.”

Jones Artusato Sankey

Last week, word got out that former Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones had started a new band with All Shall Perish guitarist Francesco Artusato and an unidentified member of Devolved; now Noisecreep have managed to get some more details on the project, the name of which “will be unveiled shortly.” (Now band names are a big announcement? They had better have come up with the single coolest moniker ever. There’s almost no way a friggin’ band name announcement could be anything but anticlimactic.)

For one thing, the Devolved member in question is drummer John Sankey, who originally founded the group with Artusato before approaching Jones. And for another, both Artusato and Jones are promising it’s not gonna be quite what you expect based on their other work:

“It became a departure from what I’m known for,” says Artusato. “I wasn’t focusing on technical guitar parts (even though I still love that aspect of writing) but simply on writing what felt best for each individual song.”

“It’s a different style of music for me,” says Jones. “It’s heavy as anything any of us are known for but I get to do some different things people won’t expect. I’ve been singing almost all my life. Being around good songwriters and musicians in my former bands really helped mold me into who I am now.”

The band is apparently working on their debut album with producer Logan Mader, and will eventually fill out their line-up for a world tour. So that’s exciting! I’m stoked at the possibility of Jones being involved with something cool again. Fingers crossed it equals more than the sum of its parts…
