One of the coolest parts of starting the Housecore Horror Film Festival (October 25-27 in Austin, Texas) is that I get to check out a ton of new, kick-ass metal bands for possible inclusion in the music side of things.

While we’ve only announced five bands so far (Down, Crowbar, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Eyehategod, and Warbeast), I can tell you that there will be a LOT more coming. Indeed, we will be making our official entire band line-up announcement on June 6.

My partner, Philip Anselmo, and I also plan to include a few Austin bands on the bill because we understand the importance of spotlighting a genre that has been somewhat forgotten in the Live Music Capital of the World as of late.

Our partner in HHFF, Tammy Moore, has alerted us to plenty of killer Austin bands that we plan on checking out such as Dead Earth Politics, Prey For Sleep, Critical Assembly, Beyond Gods & Empires, Eagle Claw, Vesperian Sorrow, and one of my personal favorites, HeadCrusher.

HeadCrusher moved to Austin in 2008 from their home country of Colombia. Since they’ve arrived in the United States they’ve toured various parts of the country, won the Roadrunner Records March to Full Metal Texas competition, played with a ton of national-level acts, and even graced the stage at last year’s Barge To Hell.

Check out the video for their new single “Swimming In A Sea Of Death,” (inspired by their barge experience?!) from their forthcoming EP. The track was mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen (Behemoth, Moonspell, Sick of it All) and the video was edited by Anders Björler from At the Gates and The Haunted.

Be sure to check out HeadCrusher’s website too.
