Stream Monolord’s Vaenir in Full, the Best Doom Record of 2015 So Far

Monolord - VaenirA couple of weeks back we told you about Swedish sludge/doom act Monolord. Since then I’ve been hooked on their gigantic, looping, lurching, lilting, fuzzed-out riffs. And all that based on just the two songs they’d released.

Now’s your chance to hear their entire new album Vaenir a week before its release, courtesy of Noisey. Although I confess I don’t listen to a ton of doom, I do get a whole crapload of it in my inbox every week, and I can tell you this: Vaenir is far and away one of my favorite doom releases of 2015 so far, possibly even of the past few years. There’s just something about the way these guys construct riffs that sets them apart from the pack, and the production style they’ve chosen — clear and concise, but still massively powerful and raw in tone — perfectly underscores what they’re doing. So many modern doom records get the production aspect so, so wrong, but Monolord have absolutely nailed it.

Vaenir comes out next week via Riding Easy Records and can be pre-ordered here.
