Previously in Morbid Angel: the band announced that they’d be letting go of their original lead singer David Vincent to reunite with their original replacement singer Steve Tucker, prompting their drummer Tim Yeung to leave. Then Vincent told the world, “Nah, I’m still in,” prompting Tucker to announce, “What? Nah.” Things couldn’t get much sillier, right?

Wrong. Blabbermouth reports today that the band’s Norwegian guitarist Destructhor (Thor Anders Myrhen to his mom) has jumped on the trolley of jumping ship from Morbid Angel. Myrhen released the following statement:

“I would like to announce that I, Destructhor, as well am out of Morbid Angel. Due to issues of them wanting to work with someone more local. Actually pretty good news to me, since I personally decided to leave Morbid Angel after the last tour we did in Europe in November/December 2014. It is definitely time for me to move on with the Norwegian extreme act Myrkskog. This is where I truly belong and exciting things are happening! A new record is being released next year with coming tours, festivals and so on. So it’s time to step it up and prepare for war with my Norwegian/Swedish brothers in Myrkskog. As for Morbid Angel, I wish them all the best with everything! It’s been a lot of great experiences! No hard feelings at all and may the future bring us all to another dimension!”

Translation:

“Fuck. THIS. I’m outta here.”

Myrhen is good about being diplomatic, but man, of course he got out now. The only thing worse than a sinking ship is a sinking ship with two dudes fighting over who gets to hold the steering wheel. Besides, Myrkskog’s a more interesting outfit than modern Morbid Angel could ever be.

That said, man, what the fuck are Morbid Angel gonna do? Does this signal the much-awaited return of Erik Rutan (unlikely), or is it another crack in the band’s armor that leads to their downfall (far more likely)? Time will tell.
