29 Dead After Fire at Romanian Metalcore Show

0

According to Metal Insider, 29 people are dead and 180 were injured during a concert by Romanian metalcore band Goodbye to Gravity this past Friday, October 30th.

The show took place at Bucharest venue Colectiv, a former Communist-era factory, where approximately 400 people were crammed into the basement. Goodbye to Gravity set off a series of pyrotechnics that ignited the soundproofing foam on ceiling and sent the crowd running towards the venue’s only exit. Among the dead are the band’s guitarists, Mihai Alexandru and Vlad Tele. The rest of the band members were hospitalized.

Many are claiming that Romania’s lax fire codes are to blame; apparently, indoor fireworks are not uncommon at Romanian parties and concerts.

Everyone at MetalSucks sends our deepest condolences out to the friends and family of all those killed or injured. We’ll let you know if we hear anything further about this tragedy.
