Watch: Stone Sour Covered Soundgarden’s “Outshined” Last Night

0

“Outshined” seems to be the go-to, in-a-pinch Soundgarden cover: Megadeth performed it last night at their show in Tokyo in tribute to the late Chris Cornell, and then Stone Sour did the same at a Rock on the Range kickoff party in Ohio.

It makes perfect sense why “Outshined” keeps getting the nod: not only is it one of the most popular and loved songs in Soundgarden’s catalogue — with one of the singular most iconic riffs in all of heavy music — but it’s one of those songs that any budding guitar player who’s ever fucked around in drop D tuning just knows. It’s ubiquitous, and the Stone Sour dudes probably already kinda knew how to play it, they just had to fit together all the pieces, which they did just hours before the show.

And they fucking nailed it, I think. The band is tight, and Corey Taylor sounds phenomenal. A fitting tribute indeed.
