Shit That Comes Out Today: June 1, 2018
This week is a lot slower than last week was, however, there is a lot of awesome shit dropping today including two killer records from two killer Kansas City bands. I have been incredibly excited to share both records for a long time so I can’t wait to hear what you all think about them. In other news, I agree that it’s time for me to be fired. Not just from Shit That Comes Out Today, but from MetalSucks in general. I have tried to do this in person with Axl and Vince TWICE now with no success so I’m asking for your help. Make sure you spam every article over the next week with as many #firephilboozeman comments as you can to make them listen. Your service is truly appreciated, now shut the fuck up and listen to some metal.
Prequelle (Loma Vista)
On a playlist with Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult and Blood Ceremony
I love Ghost for a more than a few reasons, however, the main two are that the music is a wonderful, spooky throwback to 80s rock, and also that seeing people get butthurt about the Ghost patch on my battle jacket never stops being funny. People will argue about whether Ghost are rock or metal until the end of the fucking world, and although I would say they are certainly a rock band, that’s beside the point. The point is that Ghost keep putting out ridiculously infectious songs that get stuck in your head and make you keep listening. Out of the two singles they’ve released, I definitely prefer “Rats” over “Dance Macabre” as the latter is a bit too poppy for me, but nonetheless, I’m very excited for this album. But I am not excited to see all the fucking normies who hear Ghost on the radio start wearing any sort of metal looking band merch. For a more in-depth opinion, you can read Vince’s review here.
Sewerborn (Unique Leader)
On a playlist with Decapitated, Suffocation and Aeon
Listen up, ya fucks, because this is an album that I’ve been excited to share with you all for a very long time. Ahtme, Kansas City’s token lords of shit, have blessed our ears and toilets with a brand of death metal that will tear through you harder than a Chipotle burrito, and leave your sphincter bloodier than Elizabeth Báthory’s bath tub. I have been watching Ahtme rip KC a new asshole every single time they’ve taken the stage for more years that I can count, granted I can’t count very high, and I could not be more exited for these guys. Ahtme are the epitome of Kansas City death metal and any opposition will be drowned in the murky, shit-stained waters of the sewers.
Imitation Crown (N/A)
On a playlist with Converge, Norma Jean and The Dillinger Escape Plan
Listen: “Guillotine del Toro”
Snakehound are the second Kansas City band I am beyond excited to share this week. Any fan of Converge will feel right at home with these guys, and although I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never liked mathcore all that much, Snakehound are changing that. Imagine a heart attack that lowers your blood pressure and makes you lose 5 pounds, Snakehound are that in musical form. The first time I saw this band was at a spaghetti wrestling tournament/house show/birthday party (yes, really), and I legitimately cannot remember the last time a local band bowled me over so hard with their live performance. If you need a little chaos and a lot of aggression, look no further. Snakehound are all venom and all bite.
Meditations (Nuclear Blast)
On a playlist with Illdisposed, Hypocrisy and Ex Deo
I absolutely fucking loved Kataklysm when I was in high school, but for whatever reason I just quit listening to them. I have no idea why I thought that would be a good decision because I definitely dig the singles they’ve released so far. Are they as good as the older stuff? I wouldn’t say so, but despite the negative opinions I’ve seen thrown around regarding this album, I still think people are exaggerating a bit when they say how much they don’t like it, but what do I know? I also haven’t listened to this band in 10 years so maybe they’ve released the same album 4 times since. But again, I dig what I’ve heard so far so let me know your thoughts on this one in the comments.
Downfall Of Mankind (Napalm Records)
On a playlist with Extinction A.D., Mortillery and Torture Squad
Listen: “Kill The Silence”
Nervosa are an all-female, three-piece thrash outfit from Brazil. These women make music that’s the auditory equivalent of having the entire clip of an assault rifle unloaded in your face while a buzz saw cuts you in half from the dick up. I’m sure half of you probably rolled your eyes and quite reading the second you saw ‘all-female’, but that’s a loss on your part because this is easily one of the angriest releases of the year. Nervosa are fucking awesome and it’s a shame that it took me until their third full-length release to hop on the hype train. Buy this album and support this band. This album fucking rocks harder than 90% of the thrash releases this year.
