Ionna Gika’s “Roseate” Will Scratch Your Itch For Electronic Sadness

0

Ionna Gika, frontwoman for the L.A. shoegaze duo Io Echo, has kicked off her career as a solo artist. Ahead of her tour with Deafheaven, she’s released the first song, “Roseate,” from her upcoming full-length debut. She says the track “was formed from a political premonition [she] had after a period of personal loss drew her back to her family’s home in their native Greece.”

“Roseate” is a spacey, dynamic jam that pushes forward amongst a dark shoegaze-y ambiance. It sounds like something you might hear from a slightly more upbeat Chelsea Wolfe, embracing the sorrow but giving it an energetic boost.

If you have a few minutes to dig into some immersive synthy goodness, give “Roseate” a shot. Expect the rest of the record early in 2019 via Sargent House, and in the meantime, see if you can make it to any of the upcoming tour dates. Follow Ionna Gika on Facebook and Instagram.
