Slayer’s Tom Araya Stirs Controversy Again with New Pro-Conservative Social Media Rhetoric

Gee, Tom Araya sure is a swell fella. He knows how upset fans are about Slayer’s impending retirement, so he’s acting like an asshole on social media. I can only assume this is a selfless effort to help make us dislike his band, thereby easing our pain.

First, right after Trump was inaugurated, Araya posted some pro-Trump fan art online and called liberals “snowflakes.” A few months later, the bassist/vocalist acted like a crybaby by calling fans upset about that initial post “crybabies.” And now, Araya has posted a series of terrific “jokes” about how conservatives are better than liberals under the guise of attempting to understand our nation’s current political strife.

After this introduction…

“With all the crazy shit going on I have to ask.
I sit on the fence of reason
Comments an opinions welcomed.”

…Araya posted the following on Instagram:

“If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

“If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

“If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.”

Araya has spent the past 32 years trying to explain to critics why “Angel of Death” isn’t a pro-Nazi song and the past seventeen years telling people he doesn’t really think God hates us all. So we have to assume he understands nuance, and therefore knows that none of what he’s saying is factually accurate. We can also assume that he understands provocation, which explains his decision to post this just days after violence and attempted violence was perpetrated by members of the far right. This being the case, we can deduce that this post is a total troll, likely designed, as I said, to help us all miss Slayer a little less when they finally rain blood for the last time.

Either that, or he’s just another boring old rich guy who likes other boring old rich guys and is terrified that the world might change in such a way as to make life for boring old rich guys infinitesimally more difficult.

In any case, Araya’s bandmate, guitarist Gary Holt (also of Exodus fame), eventually chimed in with some more liberal-leaning opinions:

“Not to mention any critical comment on our current president is met with fury not laughs????❗”

And:

“I know a lot of conservatives who work at Waffle House or Denny’s would like to know where this employee sponsored health care is! Or how they can afford it working at Walmart selling patriotic goods made overseas!????”

So at least someone in Slayer is reasonable.
