“Black Flags Over Brooklyn” Anti-Fascist, Anti-Racist Metal Festival Announces Full Lineup

“Black Flags Over Brooklyn” Anti-Fascist, Anti-Racist Metal Festival Announces Full LineupLast month we told you about Black Flags Over Brooklyn, the two-day anti-fascist, anti-racist metal festival taking place at the Brooklyn Bazaar on Friday evening, January 25th, and all-day Saturday, January 26th, 2019. Over two days, 15 of the heavy metal underground’s most crucial bands will come together to proclaim that heavy metal is for everyone (except Nazis), and loudly reject fascism, racism, and bigotry in their communities and across the globe. A handful of killer bands had already been announced, with the festival set to feature a vendor market consisting of band merch, label distros, radical publishers, activist organizations, local artisans and more as well.

Now we’ve got the whole lineup, and things just keep looking better and better for this burgeoning metal gathering for a cause that MetalSucks fully supports:

Dawn Ray’d
Cloud Rat
Vile Creature
Closet Witch
Heavy Temple
White Phosphorous
Trophy Hunt

With the more established acts on the bill carrying the load, the show is sure to be an energetic and eclectic blast of positive fury. And though a few of those bands are new to me, I’m 100% certain that the brains behind the festival (including former MS contributor and dear friend Kim Kelly!) know exactly what they’re doing.

Dawn Ray’d commented on the event:

“Black Flags Over Brooklyn is a celebration of the defiance of heavy metal, and the importance of resistance wherever you are. Heavy metal is freedom, it is anti-authoritarian, and it is non-hierarchical. Love black metal, hate fascism!”

Additionally, Black Flags Over Brooklyn has launched a Kickstarter to help fund what is surely a massive financial undertaking. The funds raised will go towards covering the bands’ travel costs, housing, food, drinks and performance fees, as well as venue costs, promo costs, printing costs and anything else needed to make this event the best it can be. Any leftover funds will be donated to a like-minded cause.
