Shit That Comes Out Today: April 19th, 2019

0

It is Friday, my dudes. And for those of us in more northern climates, the weather’s finally starting to become tolerably warm… at least for now. Honestly, this is about the last thing I’d like to be doing right now — there’s rivers to float, trails to hike, dog shit to step in, and all sorts of other outdoor shenanigans to be had. But for the greater good of our society, I’m here to provide you with the soundtrack to your weekend. Thank me later, after you go enjoy the goddamn sunshine, you pasty fucks. Don’t forget to have an amazing 4/20, and Easter too, I guess.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 19th, 2019Cosmic Putrefaction
At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm (I, Voidhanger)
FFO Gorguts, Blood Incantation
Full Album Stream

The latest unsightly creature to emerge from I, Voidhanger’s vault of bedroom projects is Cosmic Putrefaction, the brain-child of a genius-in-the-making Italian fella who goes by G.G. (but not GG Allin, I hope). His other projects are The Clearing Path and The Summit, if that means anything to you. At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm employs the kind of twisted cosmic hellfire you might hear from Blood Incantation, but it never quite settles on any one idea; instead, we are constantly pulled from one deranged concept to another, begging for mercy as we succumb to the pandemonium both outside of and within ourselves.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 19th, 2019Allegaeon
Apoptosis (Metal Blade)
Full Album Stream

In what’s arguably the greatest marketing scheme of all time, Allegaeon recently annointed NYC subway commuters with their cover of The Supremes’ “You Can’t Hurry Love.” Unfortunately, that one’s not on their new album, but there’s plenty of other tech fun to be found within. You know what to expect: catchy riffs and basslines, lots and lots of sweep picking, pulverizing drums, and all that good shit. It can get a bit dry towards the end, but I’m sure you already expected that, too.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 19th, 2019Watchcries
Unearthed (Holy Roar)
FFO Full Of Hell, Secret Cutter
Listen “Transgressions Entwined

Jumping from crust-punk to hardcore to sludge and every goddamn thing in between, Watchcries have left me thoroughly impressed with their latest entity. I’m surprised nobody else has really been talking about it, but then again, my taste sucks. All I can say is I really dig Unearthed, and though it’s a bit punkier than what I usually indulge in, it has just enough nasty to make me want to listen over and over again (it’s only ten minutes long, after all).

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 19th, 2019Vitriol
Chrysalis EP (Iron Bonehead)
FFO ???
Listen “Swarming Segments

I have no idea how this “release date” thing even works. Does anybody…? According to Bandcamp, this album came out in February, but several other websites say it’s released today. So whatever, IDGAF, it deserves attention. This two-track EP will warp and crumble your world into a discordant death-machine, drenching everything you’ve ever loved with nightmare fuel and igniting it in a blaze of deranged glory. I don’t even know what else to compare this to — I’ve never heard anything quite like it. But if you’re into “cryptic metal carnage” and Bavarian mysticism, Chrysalis will be right up your alley.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 19th, 2019Dead to a Dying World
Elegy (Profound Lore)
FFO Wayfarer, Isenordal, Dreadnought
Listen “Empty Hands, Hollow Hymns

Elegy is an apocalyptic story of humanity’s self-inflicted extinction, explored through rich, melodic textures and the vast atmospheres of black and doom metal. Plenty of non-traditional instrumentation, like experimental percussion, hurdy-gurdy, viola, and hammond organ is featured throughout, as well as special guest appearances from members of Swans, Bell Witch, and more. This is a truly an extraordinary effort from the Texas-bases musicians — it really gets the point across that we as a species are severely fucking up whatever we’ve got going for us.
