Poppy Releases New Single “Bloodmoney” with Violent Music Video

0

Poppy’s heavy new direction continues with “Bloodmoney,” the third single to be released from her forthcoming album, I Disagree, following the title track and “Concrete.”

“Bloodmoney” is more EDM than metal but is no less heavy than the previous two singles, with abrasive, pulsating blasts of low-end noise punctuating Poppy’s screeched vocals (and a guitar solo for the metalheads). The track is catchy enough, but in typical Poppy fashion the lyrics are dark as fuck: “What does it feel like to have my soul sucked out of my body?” she asks, before wondering “What do you believe when everyone is watching? What do you believe when nobody is watching?”

Even more impressive is the video, a one-camera, single-take affair (perhaps one or two clever cuts, hard to tell though) that features the waifish singer taking on gigantic men in SWAT-like garb with a crowbar and her own two hands. Yeesh. I wouldn’t fuck with Poppy in a dark alley, would you?

Poppy just announced headline tours of the U.S., U.K. and Europe this coming winter; dates below, and tickets here. I Disagree comes out on January 10 via Sumerian Records; pre-order here.
