New Documentary Features Metal and Punk Musicians Talking About Their Love of Baseball

Happy pitchers and catchers, everyone!! It’s the most glorious time of year: hope springs eternal, and even fans of perennial bottom dwelling teams can cautiously allow themselves to be filled with optimism. Spring is coming soon! Anything can happen!!

To celebrate the rebirth of all that is good and holy in the world — other than the Astros — the folks behind a documentary named Baseball Furies have released a trailer, along with the following description that cuts right through the heart of both of my main passions in life: “Baseball Furies is a documentary that explores the complex relationship between baseball, music, and artists who reject the cookie-cutter parameters of the American Dream.”

If that sounds a little abstract, watch the trailer and it’ll all make sense once you see Mike Patton, Buzz Osborne, Steve Albini, members of The Dropkick Murphys and others talk about how much they love baseball in spite of sports typically being frowned down upon by musician types, especially as kids. Former MLB players Bernie Williams, Jake Peavy and Ryan Dempster, as well as baseball writers and broadcasters, appear on the other side of the coin to share their love of music despite sports and music culture allegedly being at odds.

In short, it looks fascinating and complex, and I can’t wait for this film to come out. More info here.
