Coronavirus Forces Testament, Exodus and Death Angel Show Cancelation
I haven’t been following the coronavirus spread as closely as some — I’m of the mind that a lot of the media surrounding it has been sensationalist (cough), and I’ll worry about if and when it gets to NYC — but it sure is scary when you stop to think about it, eh? And it seems more or less inevitable that we’ll all have to alter our lives in some way because of it, big or small.
The coronavirus infiltrated our little metal corner of the universe yesterday when Testament, Exodus and Death Angel, who are currently touring Europe together, announced that their gig today, February 25, in Milan, Italy has been canceled. Over two hundred Italians have been diagnosed with the coronavirus since late last week and five have died, mostly in the northern region of Lombardy (where Milan is). The venue where the tour was scheduled to play, the Live Club of Trezzo, has canceled all upcoming events through at least March 1 under orders by the President of the Lombardy Region. Many towns in the region are in full lockdown mode with residents prevented from leaving or entering, and public events at which large numbers of people gather, such as concerts, have been taken down en masse.
Testament and Exodus both re-posted a press release issued by the club while Death Angel announced the news with a brief message of their own on Instagram, saying “We’re sorry to announce that the show in Milano, Italy has been CANCELED, due to an outbreak of the coronavirus. But the show must go on! Tonight we’re in Zurich, Switzerland! See you in the pit!”
As of right now, the tour is simply bypassing Milan and proceeding as planned as no other Italian dates were scheduled. We’ll let you know if anything changes. The three bands on the run already had a rough go of it earlier on when a significant amount of their gear was damaged aboard a ferry that brought the tour through a fierce storm from Sweden to Finland.
