Members of Baroness, Old Man Gloom and Candiria Cover Danzig’s “Snakes of Christ”

Two Minutes to Late Night host Gwarsenio Hall (aka Jordan Olds) continues his series of quarantine videos that unite metal musicians from across the land to keep the isolated masses entertained. Following a version of Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years” featuring members of High on Fire, Mutoid Man and Spirit Adrift, as well as an Ozzy cover by Chelsea Wolfe and The Dillinger Escape Plan members, Olds and his posse are back with a cover of Danzig’s “Snakes of Christ.”

The video — which features Baroness guitarist Gina Gleason, Candiria/Spylacopa guitarist John LaMacchia, Potion bassist Stella Leung and Old Man Gloom drummer Santos Montano — begins with a spoof of the infamous 1990 Danzig interview in which the crooner, shirtless and in front of a shelf of books, pensively leafs through his library. Montano totally nails the vibe, and I’d encourage you to stick around until the end of the video for a worthwhile finale.

As for the cover, it’s friggin’ great. This is the first time I’m seeing Gleason really take the spotlight since she joined Baroness and came into the national eye, and crikey, she frickin’ rips! That guitar solo at 2:58… *MWAH* chef’s kiss, just perfection. I’d love to hear some of her original music in which her work is more at the forefront like this, as opposed to Baroness which is very much John Baizley’s Thing (love the band as though I do). Olds, meanwhile, does a damn fine Danzig croon. Polite bows all around for this one.
