Hot DAMN!, this new Carcass song. “The Long and Winding Bier Road” starts out great and only gets better as it progresses. The main lick, which is upbeat and poppy and yet still totally metal, makes me wanna recklessly break speed limits. The verses are propulsive, the choruses vertiginous, and the guitar solo wails over a rhythm section that chomps and chews. There is not a bad or wasted second in this perfectly-structured, absolute demon of a song. I judge you if you don’t love it.

Listen to “The Long and Winding Bier Road” below. The track will appear on Carcass’ new EP, Despicable, which comes out October 30. It’s ostensibly a stop-gap release to make up for the fact that the band had to delay their new full-length, Torn Arteries, from August 7 to who knows when because of the pandemic.

In addition to “Bier Road,” Despicable will include the already-released “Under the Scalpel Blade” and “The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue.” You can stream those two songs below as well. The EP will contain one last additional track, “Slaughtered in Soho,” which presumably we won’t hear until October 30.
