Wolfgang Van Halen Calls Rumors of a Van Halen Reunion Without Eddie a “Sh*tty Lie”

Wolfgang Van Halen has responded most unfavorably to a rumor that Van Halen are plotting a reunion without late guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

Eddie, of course, died from cancer less than three weeks ago.

The rumor seems to have originated with a tweet from Metal Sludge, which, citing an anonymous source, claimed there was a “strong possibility” that the Eddie-less reunion would be happening, and that Eddie even gave the idea his blessing before he passed away.

Responding to this tweet, Wolfgang wrote:

“This is just a shitty lie attempting to capitalize on these awful times. Please stop with this.

“Anyone peddling this shit is not only hurting the fans, but hurting me and my family.”

Which is honestly a relief to hear. I mean, not the part about hurting the Van Halen family, obviously. But the part about this not being true. I don’t know who thinks attempting to have Van Halen without Eddie fucking Van Halen would be a good idea. Probably the same people who wanted Pantera to reunite with Zakk Wylde on guitar after Dime was murdered.

Now, if Wolfgang and Alex Van Halen wanted to recruit David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar or even Michael Anthony (or, uh, Gary Cherone) to start a new band with a new name, that might be something else. But Van Halen died with Eddie. I know we often say “Everyone’s Replaceable” around here, but in some cases, that is not actually true.
