Corey Taylor Says His Next Slipknot Mask is “Gonna F*cking Scare Kids! It’s So Gnarly!”

The unveiling of new Slipknot masks has become an event as anticipated as new music itself, arriving at the beginning of every album cycle with plenty of fanfare and, naturally, heated debate. The most recent iteration of Slipknot masks came ahead of the band’s 2019 album, We Are Not Your Kind, but could the band be getting ready to unveil another set already, not even two years later?

Signs point towards new Slipknot music arriving sooner rather than later, with various band members providing coy updates about it for months. If Slipknot are in fact readying an album, new masks would almost certainly arrive with it.

According to Sir Metal Jesus Himself, in a new interview with Steve‑O’s Wild Ride! podcast, Corey Taylor has revealed that his new mask is already finished! It’s just one more sign that points to new Slipknot arriving sooner than anyone expected given the usual length of time between their albums.

Here’s what Metal’s Version of Sliced Bread said on the topic to the former Jackass star:

“Sometimes we have a vision in our head – Clown is really good at it, because he’s an artist, so he’ll go somewhere gnarly and be like, ‘Okay, I’ve got this image…’ and then we’ll have outside people create it. But then there’s some times where you’re just like, ‘I don’t have a real vision, but I have an idea,’ and you talk through it with a visual arts guy or a visual effects guy, and they will create it for you. And then you’ll look at it and go, ‘I like this, change this, blah blah blah.’ And you whittle it down until you get to something that’s really rad.

“My new mask is gonna fucking scare kids! It’s so gnarly, dude. It’s really uncomfortable; it freaked my wife out. She won’t look at it – and she loves crazy shit like that. She’s just like, ‘That’s really bothering me, you need to put that picture away!’”

Note: he says “picture,” not actual mask, as in he doesn’t have possession of the physical object yet. But if he’s already got a completed mock-up (or photo of the real thing), presumably he’ll have it in his hands before too long.

Corey’s most recent mask generated quite a bit of controversy, so we’ll see if Slipknot fans are satisfied this time around.

We will, of course, keep you all updated on this extremely important news.
