Metallica Share 1991 “Sad But True” Performance Video

Metallica have shared a pro-shot video of their “Sad But True” performance at the Monsters of Rock Festival at Gentofte Stadion in Gentofte, Denmark on August 10, 1991.

This was only the third time the band played the song, having given the track its live debut at a pair of warm-up shows in California a week prior.

Watch the video below. It comes from one of the SIX live and behind-the-scenes DVDs that will be included in the upcoming super-duper-extra-special thirtieth anniversary reissue of The Black Album. Previously, the band debuted a 1991 demo of “Enter Sandman” and an alternate version of “Sad But True.” The expanded Black Album comes out September 10, and can be pre-ordered here.

Additionally, on October 1, Metallica will release The Metallica Blacklist,  The Metallica Blacklist, an album that “celebrates the enduring influence of Metallica with an unprecedented 50+ artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut.” Singles released from that collection thus far include from that album include “Nothing Else Matters” by Miley Cyrus, Elton John , Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith, and Robert Trujillo“Enter Sandman” by Juanes, and versions of “Sad But True” by St. Vincent, Sam Fender, and Jason Isbell.
