Four Stroke Baron Remain Thoroughly Awesome on New Song “Friday Knight”

It takes balls the size of Dave Lombardo’s drum kit to call your album of new material Classics, but that’s precisely what Four Stroke Baron have done. In their defense, they’ve got the goods. Their 2018 release, Planet Silver Screen, was excellent, but Classics is next-level, a thrilling, inventive, feel-good blend of poppy progressive metal and progressively gothy pop. Classics occupies the Venn Diagram overlap of Type O Negative fans, Torche fans, Volbeat fans, synthwave fans, and Devin Townsend fans (not-so-incidentally, Devin Townsend mixed Classics).

Exhibit A: “Friday Knight,” the first single from Classics. The song sounds like Gojira enlisted Faith No More’s Roddy Bottum to help them write an ’80s New Wave track (at least kinda — honestly, there’s no description of Four Stroke Baron’s music that isn’t gonna be reductive). And not only that, but the accompanying music video is also unique — it’s set entirely in a parking lot and consists mostly of some dude in a glittery suit dancing around (rather impressively) while band members Kirk Witt and Matt Vallarino party in the background. Your average band-in-a-warehouse metal video this ain’t.

Regarding the impending release of Classics, Four Stroke Baron had this to say:

“This is the best thing we’ve ever done, and we’re calling it right now that every song is a future classic. We told Devin Townsend to go as hard as possible when doing the sound design and adding textures, which upped the insanity factor 100x.”

None of that is a lie or an exaggeration. Just sayin’.
