Animals As Leaders Drop Frenetic New Single “Gordian Naught”

0

The myth of the Gordian knot is that the ox-cart of an oracle-decreed king was tied to a post in Phrygia with a knot so complicated that another oracle declared whoever could untie it would rule all of Asia (lotta oracles back then). When Alexander the Great showed up, he realized it didn’t matter HOW the knot was untied, and sliced that shit in half. The term ‘Gordian knot’ has since become a phrase we use to describe a seemingly-unsolvable problem which we just have to think around — which is exactly why it’s the perfect reference to be used in an Animals As Leaders song.

The band’s new track, “Gordian Naught,” actually sounds like the myth of its namesake. The song opens with a lot of frenzied guitars and percussion, but a ways in takes a pounding, heavy-for-heavy’s-sake approach. It’s as though the band are immersed in their own technicality and songwriting, and then decide to cut themselves loose with a big, pounding riff.

Here’s what Animals have to say about the track:

“This song attempts to put a soundtrack to the metaphor of ‘untying an impossibly tangled knot.’ A sonic commentary on the seemingly sustained problems facing the world currently.”

Nevermind, turns out it’s more complicated than we thought!
