Abbath Cracks Open “The Book of Breath” On New Single
Earlier this month, badger-painted black metal foil Abbath dropped the title track from his upcoming album Dread Reaver. Now, the former Immortal frontman has released a new track from the record, and this one’s a lot of fun.
The track, titled “The Book of Breath” (woof, hell of a smell memory that evokes), is a solidly-galloping black thrash song that definitely roils a bit harder than “Dread Reaver” did, especially with that soaring guitar lead over the central parts of it. It proves what we’ve been led to believe: that Abbath knows what he’s doing with this shit, and that he’s here to make metal that’s super fucking entertaining first and foremost. Sure, some of the grim and frostbitten will be chapped by that, but, you know, fuck ’em.
Check out the track below, followed by the cover art and tracklisting. Abbath’s Dread Reaver drops March 25th via Season of Mist, and is available for preorder. The record was produced by Endre Kirkesola, Abbath, and Dag Erik Nygaard, mixed by Abbath and Kirkesola, and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Mayhem, Faith No More, William Shatner, etc.). The album art was created by Bjørn Stian Bjoarvik.
