Zakk Wylde Shares Honest Memories of Lemmy: “He Was Just Skin and Bones at That Point…”

0

For a certain type of rock and metal fan, Lemmy was THE rock star. Ozzy was cool, and David Lee Roth seemed like a lot of fun, but the frontman of Motörhead was in it to win it, dying in the service of making zaftig people dance like complete maniacs. Now, Ozzy Osbourne guitarist and Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde has offered up some memories of Lemmy — some of which are heartwarming, but some of which are a little jarring.

Here’s what Zakk told Metal Hammer in regards to Ozzy and Lemmy partying together:

“I didn’t know anybody who didn’t like Lemmy because he was great with everybody he met. And when he and Ozzy got together? Forget about it, they were both hilarious. When Motörhead opened for Oz, every night was Friday night, man. We went out drinking a ton. I remember right before Lemmy passed we had a big birthday celebration at The Whisky [A Go Go] where we played for him. I hugged him and it was like hugging your grandmother – he was just skin and bones at that point.”

Woof. Lemmy the Human isn’t something we think about a lot, but in those last couple of months, we’re sure the human was really shining through.
