Soulfly Announce New Album for August, Drop Huge First Single

0

We’ve been waiting for a new Soulfly record for a hot second now, with the band going through line-up changes and embarking on big-ass tours in the meantime. Now, Soulfly have announced their new album, and have dropped an absolutely gigantic first single to boot.

Soulfly’s 12th studio album will be titled Totem, and comes out August 5th from Nuclear Blast. The album is available for preorder in several formats, with tracklisting and cover art below. The cover art this time around definitely takes things in a less typical old-world direction than we’re used to with the band.

The first single from the new album, “Superstition,” is one that Soulfly have played live a couple of times before. But recorded, the song sounds absolutely epic, full of huge sweeping riffs and powerfully throttling rhythms. We’re here for the post-primitive, thrash-oriented Soulfly that we’ve heard on recent releases, so this is very much up our alley.

Says frontman Max Cavalera:

“‘Totem’ is a celebration of the spiritual nature. It was a 2-year journey writing with Zyon. This album is about all the joy, the fun, and the anger in Metal.”

Check out “Superstition” below, and keep scrolling for more details from Totem. Totem was recorded at Platinum Underground in Mesa Arizona by John Aquilino and Arthur Rizk with assistance from John Powers. The record was produced by Max alongside Arthur Rizk (Kreator, Municipal Waste, Code Orange), and features guest appearances from John Powers (Eternal Champion), Chris Ulsh (Power Trip), and John Tardy (Obituary). Arthur Rizk was also responsible for playing lead guitar on the record. The artwork for the album was created by James Bousema.
