Video: Ace Frehley Throws Shade at KISS’s Paul Stanley for Allegedly Using Backing Tracks Live

0

Recently, KISS became the latest band to receive flak for relying on backing tracks during their live performances. Now, in a video of a new live show, former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has taken a little jab at guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley for the onstage snafu that led to these claims.

So for those of you who don’t know, what happened was that during their June 6th show in Antwerp, a mis-coordination between KISS drummer Eric Singer and Stanley led to a portion of Stanley’s vocal on the song “Detroit Rock City” — specifically the “Get up, everybody’s gonna leave their seat” part, you know the line — being played over the speakers without Stanley at the mic. This has led to fans out there incensed by the idea that bands use backing vocal tracks to call out KISS for it.

Frehley, it should be noted, doesn’t really go after Stanley so much as he just made a little off-handed comment. Before launching into “Detroit Rock City” at his show in New York this past Saturday, Frehley went with the following intro:

“This song’s a great song written by Mr. Paul Stanley. By the way, we don’t use tapes. Anyway, this one’s about a city in the Midwest on Lake Michigan. It’s called ‘Detroit Rock City’.”

Oh, Spaceman, you rascal. Whether or not this will change Gene Simmons’ invitation for Ace to join the band on their farewell tour remains unseen.
