Exclusive: Hardcore Band Rise Above Hit New “Heights” with Latest Single

When it comes to the Scandinavian countries, we typically look at the black metal side of things, save fore a few bands. One new band that’s looking like it could end up being one of those exceptions is Norwegian hardcore band Rise Above, who recently released their debut album Times of Clarity.

To further celebrate their first studio effort, the band released the music video for their latest single “Heights/Blue” exclusively on MetalSucks. As one of the more heavy/aggressive singles on the album, the video posted below is actually two songs off the 14-track LP, which the band says was a calculated decision.

For the music video, we decided to combine it with Blue, because – well – it is technically the same song. Just split in two. “Blue,” originally, was intended to be much longer, but we decided it would be much more fun to just cut it short, and leave the listener wanting more… And that’s kind of a theme on this record, I guess. I wouldn’t say we’re doing two things more than once.

Having been around since 2016, the band said their debut effort was finished before COVID-19 fucked everything up. Yet according to vocalist Thomas Holler, the five-piece band opted to wait until they could take the new music out to shows before putting it out.

“The record itself was done ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, but releasing it never felt right until now. We had to be able to do shows. Because that’s what we like the most about doing this – playing our songs for people. The feeling you get when you’ve given it your all on stage… Well, it’s just incredible. The recording took place on and off during a year in 2019 in Bergen, Norway. And now it’s released. Very surreal, and very scary… But exactly what we’ve been waiting for.”

You can check out the video below. Times of Clarity is available now, via Holler Records.
