Avenged Sevenfold Dressed Up as The Misfits and Released a “Last Caress” Cover

One of New Jersey’s more well-known exports, The Misfits, are synonymous with Halloween and the spoopy season. As such, it’s pretty much expected that some band, some where, will put out a cover of one of the band’s more iconic tracks and in this case, Avenged Sevenfold took their shot.

As you can see from the video below, guitarist Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer Brooks Wackerman got done up in face paint, donned denim and leather jackets, and banged out the two minute song for a quick YouTube video.

Musically, the cover sounds good. It matches the tempo well, the guitars sound close, and the drums are pretty simple so those are easy to replicate. But it’s Vengeance’s vocals that kinda stand out for me. It’s not easy to copy Danzig’s crooning, warbling vocals, but Vengeance seems to do the performance justice.

This is actually the second time the band’s released a Misfits cover on Halloween, with last year’s performance being “Hybrid Moments.” The band released the following statement with the video.

“Hello Boils and Ghouls. Last year a few of us gave you a cover of ‘Hybrid Moments’ by the MISFITS. We had so much fun that we wanted to keep the tradition alive this Halloween with one ‘Last Caress’. Beware…”

The only issues I have with the clip are that they could have picked a different song, since I honestly equate “Last Caress” with Metallica’s “Last Caress/Green Hell” cover from The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited, there are zero devillocks to be found on the band, and Vengeance is way too tall to be a convincing Danzig.

Still, it’s a good sounding cover and a cool way to celebrate Halloween. Check out the video below.
