Atreyu Drop New Song, “Drowning”

0

Metalcore darlings turned rockers Atreyu have dropped a new single, “Drowning.” As of now, it’s just a standalone track and is not affiliated with any upcoming releases. Unsurprisingly, given the title of the song, the lyrics are about struggles with mental health and feeling like one is drowning underneath them. The video also features water because do you care about this theme or not?!

Atreyu offered this when releasing “Drowning”:

“To the five of us, this song is audio anti-depressants. Much like everyone does, the five of us have experienced waves of depression, anxiety, and fear in vastly different ways. This song is about feeling buried. We have found comfort in simply communicating those feelings with each other, and hope you will arrive in a similar place when listening. This song is for all of us.”

“Drowning” follows extensive touring from Atreyu in support of their last album, Baptize. The release of that record didn’t go so well for the veteran band, who had previously enjoyed a degree of commercial success throughout their career. In fact, Baptize was the first Atreyu album to not land on the Billboard 200 since their debut album, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses, in 2002. (Side note: Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses is 21 years old?! Where do the years go…)

Tomorrow also kicks off a brief European tour for Atreyu, where they’ll be supporting Welsh metalcore mainstays Bullet For My Valentine and Ukrainian metal act Jinjer.
