Rob Trujillo Sorta Gets His Wish as YouTuber Records a Slayer Version of Metallica’s “72 Seasons”
Last week, Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo was speaking with Mexican radio station Alfa 91.3 FM when he was asked what bands he would like to hear cover songs off of 72 Seasons. It’s an interesting question for sure, but his answer pointed straight at the now defunct Slayer.
Given the fact that Slayer called it quits back in 2019 and there’s been literally zero rumors of a potential reunion, that request was seemingly impossible to fulfill — until now. Enter Moonic Productions, a YouTube channel featuring a Finish musician, producer, and composer named Otu. The dude loves his metal and he’s particularly adept at coming up with covers that sound like different artists, like Alice in Chains covering Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and Napalm Death covering System of a Down’s “Sugar.”
Given Trujillo’s mashup of a request, Otu got to work and created the clip you can check out below. It’s fast, it’s punchy, and it even has a bit of that Tom Araya scream in there for good measure.
