Metallica Topple Taylor Swift’s SoFi Stadium Attendance Record as Stars Come Out for the Show
This past weekend, Metallica fans from around the world descended upon Los Angeles for two nights of classic metal mayhem as part of the band’s M72 World Tour. Just as with every previous stop along the way, tens of thousands were in attendance, but enough people showed up to do something that’s especially noteworthy — they beat a single-show record previously held by none other than Taylor Swift.
According to the Los Angeles Times, more than approximately 78,000 people attended each night of Metallica’s two shows at the venue, despite the fact that the SoFi Stadium has 70,240 seats. And that’s all thanks to the band’s use of standing room areas, as well as the “Snake Pit” they’re implemented in their stage design.
It should be noted, however, that Swift sold out during her six-show run at SoFi Stadium, totaling roughly 420,000 ticket holders. Each night had more than 70,000 attendees.
The new single show mark was also announced by the venue’s official Twitter account, which thanked the band and its fans for “two incredible sold-out nights.”
And given the fact that the show was based in a major hub of the entertainment industry, numerous TV and Hollywood stars came out to show their support for Metallica and their opening acts like Ice Nine Kills, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, and Mammoth WVH.
Among the stars in attendance were actors John Travolta, Jason Momoa, and Thomas Sandoval and actress Adria Arjona. Other musicians were also in attendance, including Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee and John 5, Rob Caggiano, Tom Morello, Jerry Cantrell, and dUg Pinnick, as well as Anthrax’s Scott Ian and his family. Interestingly enough, you can see almost every one of those special attendees on Charlie Benante’s Instagram feed.
