Corey Taylor Says Ozzy Once Joked About Wanting to Be the 10th Member of Slipknot

They say you should never meet your heroes — but what about letting your heroes join your band? That’s something Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor had to consider… at least as a joke… the first time he came face to face with the “Prince of Darkness” himself, Ozzy Osbourne.

In a recent interview in Classic Rock magazine, Taylor reminisced about his first interaction with Ozzy during the band’s legendary 1999 Ozzfest run.

“I was sitting at a table with Jack and Kelly and Sharon,” he says. “All of sudden, Ozzy comes bounding up: ‘Sharon, can you help me with my earrings?’ And Sharon goes, ‘Ozzy, this is one of the members of Slipknot; it’s Corey. He’s the singer.’

“He looks at me and goes, “You’re the guys with nine members? I wanna be number 10!” I was, like, ‘Dude, you’re Ozzy, anything you want!’ It was like meeting Superman.”

It’s unclear whether or not his new band are Ozzy approved like Slipknot, but Taylor definitely has an impressive legacy to stand on.

Now, as he fondly remembers his first encounter with Ozzy, Taylor is currently touring on the back of his recently released solo record CMF2. It’s his first with BMG and his own label imprint Decibel Cooper Recordings. The record is 13 tracks, and it’s a lot more experimental than a lot of his previous work.

You can catch Corey live in support of said solo album at any of the dates below.
