Slipknot’s New Look is Steeped in Nostalgia as They Debut Their New Drummer

0

In a California venue with a maximum capacity of only a couple hundred people, Slipknot emerged last night donning the bright red jumpsuits of old and took the fans in attendance down memory lane. It was a major event in an unsuspecting location, with Pappy + Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California serving as the backdrop for the official launch of both the band’s 25th Anniversary Tour run and the new drummer’s tenure with the iconic group.

Videos have begun emerging from the performance and let’s just get one thing out of the way: that’s gotta be Eloy Casagrande on the drums, right? The band hasn’t officially revealed who their drummer is, but after comparing live footage from last night with drum cam footage of his time with Sepultura, it’s hard not to see Casagrande in both clips. Couple that with all the internet sleuthing people have been doing regarding his drumset and tattoo comparisons and you’ve pretty much got all the confirmation you need.

As for the band as a whole, it looks like they’re doing the thing and breaking out costumes that are pretty damn similar to their getups from 1999. Some of the masks even reflect their old school looks, with Corey even bringing back those long ass dreads. From the barcodes on the back to the individual members’ numbers on the sleeve, it’s all just one big call back. The band was also seen wearing black armbands with ’25’ on them — which makes sense since this year marks the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.

For all intents and purposes, last night’s show was a warmup for their upcoming appearance this weekend at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, which should be massive. As you can see from the setlist below, they played at least one song from every studio album except for 2022’s The End, So Far. Take that as you will.
