Metallica Nominated for an MTV European Music Awards That’s Sure to Disappoint

0

Ever since Jethro-Fucking-Tull won a Grammy over Metallica, metalheads have understood that mainstream award shows carry almost no bearing at all. Yet year after year, we’re always shocked when ostensibly some group of old farts get it wrong.

This year’s MTV European Music Awards will be held at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris, France and we’re pretty sure this will be yet another award show you can skip altogether. But if you’re a glutton for punishment, you can watch the ceremony when it takes place on November 5.

According to MTV, the following bands have been nominated for the “Best Rock” and “Best Alternative” categories, which is about as close as we’ll apparently get for metal in 2023:

Best Rock:

Best Alternative:

  • Blur
  • Fall Out Boy
  • Lana Del Ray
  • Paramore
  • Thirty Seconds To Mars
  • Yungblud

Now, there are a few choice standouts on the list. We can’t really argue with Metallica, that’s for sure. And we can’t fault them for choosing major emerging artists Måneskin and Yungblud, even though they might not be every reader’s cup of tea.

But some of these options, like Lana Del Ray and Arctic Monkeys, feel odd and dated. Plus, it entirely misses the mark by leaving out genres like old-school death metal and new nu metal which have a major underground following right now.

For those who do care to vote or check out the full list of nominees, that info is available over at mtvema.com.
