Alcest Return with New Album Les Chants De L’Aurore, First Single “L’Envol” Out Now

French blackgaze outfit Alcest are back to trawl the full spectrum of their sound with the newly announced album Les Chants De L’Aurore. It will be their first new album since 2019’s Spiritual Instinct and their seventh full-length studio album altogether.

In addition to the new album announcement, the band released its first single, “L’Envol” — which translates to “Flight” in English. After listening to the track even for just a moment, you’ll see why the track got that name.

Alcest vocalist/guitarist/bassist/synth player/pretty much everything beside the drums Neige said the new album was a musical trip back to the band’s early days.

“‘L’Envol’ is a musical return to the atmosphere of Alcest’s first albums. I wrote this song after an inspiring trip to Corsica, where I met amazing people and was surrounded by some of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen.

“It is about escaping from earthly reality to join a flock of mythical birds flying through the known boundaries of our world. The song is accompanied by a music video created by the talented French artist Yoann Lossel, who also designed the album cover.

“For this first single release, we wanted the music, lyrics and visuals to be as coherent and immersive as possible. All the tracks on Les Chants de l’Aurore are very different from one another, but we thought this one would be a great introduction to the overall atmosphere and themes of the album.”

In addition to the album announcement, the band revealed that they’ll be going on tour throughout Europe this winter. The full list of dates and venues can be seen below.

Les Chants De L’Aurore will be released via Nuclear Blast Records on June 21.
