Oceans of Slumber Get Kinky in Their Newest Single “Where Gods Fear to Speak”
Progressive metal outfit Oceans of Slumber are back with a new track from their upcoming, albeit currently unannounced, sixth full-length album titled “Where Gods Fear to Speak.” This dark and at times hypnotizing new piece of music was released earlier today, just a couple weeks before the band’s set to embark on a North American tour with Lacuna Coil and New Years Day.
Though we don’t know much about the band’s new album, we do know that it’s set to be a concept album dealing with the idea of organized religion. According to vocalist Cammie Beverly, a lot of the concept stemmed from her childhood, where their mother was a Jehova’s Witness, their father was a member of the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research, so let’s just say she had an interesting upbringing.
“I’ve always wanted to do death growls. ‘Where Gods Fear to Speak’ presented the perfect opportunity. Mixing harsh vocals in with my cleans speaks to that tug of war between pleasure and pain, though there’s a freedom that comes with pushing my voice past its perceived breaking point.”P
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the video, aside from the music, of course, is the use of the BDSM techinque and Japanese torture method, shibari. Though generally not used for extracting information as of late, it’s more seen around these parts (these parts being the internet) as an extreme form of master and slave play.
