Sh*t That Comes Out Today: August 8, 2025

Sometimes in life, things happen that are just out of your control. This week was probably one of those things for a lot of us. All we can do when things go sideways is to brush ourselves off, get back up, and try again. I know I’ll be doing the same, while listening to some of these new releases.

BABYMETAL

Metal Forth (Capitol Records)

Love ’em or hate ’em, these Japanese kawaii metal juggernauts remain relevant despite all the bitch babies complaining on the internet. The fact that they continually collaborate with some of metal’s more modern stars shows they have the ability to pull in new audiences and get people excited for metal, which is always a good thing.

Blackbraid

Blackbraid III (Blackbraid)

One of the most anticipated releases of the year is finally here. Having already been able to listen to Blackbraid III for a while now, I can say with complete confidence that the wait was well worth it for this one. Sgah’gahsowáh is an incredibly talented artist whose compositions stand out with each listen. This is the stand out of the week, for sure.

Dropout Kings

Yokai (Napalm Records)

Written and released as a tribute to the late Adam Ramey, who passed away weeks after finishing his part for the album. As a result, Yokai is being described as the band’s most personal album to date. This nu-metal/rap group has its place, for sure, but there’s an undeniable energy found in this release that immediately grasps the listener.

Lord Of The Lost

Opvs Noir Vol. 1 (Napalm Records)

This German gothic metal band peddles music that traffics in darkness and melancholy. Self-described as dark wave metal, this album is the first entry in an apparent trilogy that should tell a complete story when all is said and done. As for right now though, the tracks are big, epic, and at times very heavy.

Malthusian

The Summoning Bell (Relapse Records)

When most think of Ireland, it’s probably pretty rare that one would think of it being a home for death metal, but such is the case for Malthusian. The Summoning Bell is the band’s sophomore effort and follow-up from 2018’s Across Deaths. Sonically, the band’s got a deep, dark streak to it. It’s powerful and discordant with enough blast beats to turn your cranium to mush.
