ROADRUNNER RAMBLINGS

Thursday, April 29th, 2010 at 12:30pm by

Fresh off of unveiling their list of the “Ten Greatest Album Covers” in Roadrunner Records’ history, the label has now started to count down their “Ten Greatest Music Videos” – and, as is pretty much always the case with these sorts of lists, the results are pretty much guaranteed to cause a stir.

Case in point: Sepultura’s clip for “Ratamahatta” has come in at number ten. Now, I seem to be pretty much the only Sepultura fan in history who doesn’t absolutely adore Roots, but I still think this video, which is like a Brazilian version of something Tool might do, is awesome – certainly more so than any other video on the list so far (they’ve already unveiled the bottom five).

You can check out the rest of the list so far here.

Meanwhile, Cradle of Filth have ankled the label and signed with Peaceville. So that’s another metal band that’s no longer on Roadrunner. I wonder if any of their videos will end up making the list anyway?

their shitty lists are just as bad as metalsucks’ shitty lists

You’re not the only one. I think Roots is their worst effort with Max handling the vox.

      same here..

don’t like it either. Sounds too much like Nu-Metal.

      Yep, it’s pretty fucking boring

I thought this was the general consensus, no?

Add me to the list of ‘Roots’ haters. Beneath the Remains and Arise both being classics, and then Chaos AD being a slight change but still awesome … and then Roots, with uninspired riffing and lyrics, and more throwaway tracks than the average rap album.

i’m also one of the rare sepultura fans who doesn’t like “roots.” i think the album was garbage, and their attempt to hop on the nu-metal band wagon. i remember getting this immediately when it came out and being sorely disappointed. there were a few decent songs, but by and large, this album sucked.

and these roadrunner lists suck too.

    You are fucking joking.

I enjoy Roots, but I agree it is the worst album while Max was still in the band. I don’t listen to it much, but I love certain songs on it (such as the title track and Ratamahatta).

Cut-Throat and Straighthate I really enjoy, too. It also marks the beginning of when Max’s lyrics went full retard.

    Chaos A.D.> Roots

  • Lard

Not a fan of Roots either, too nu metal-ish for my taste

  • kmfcm

    I like Roots. . . . .well. . . half of it.

Check out 1:45 for the godawful-sonic DNA that spawned Disturbed.

Roots was always my least favorite of the Max-era Sepultura albums and it’s become harder to listen to over the years. My ears can’t tolerate Ross Robinson’s production style – he makes guitars sound terrible.

Chaos A.D. on the other hand sounds great and it’s full of energy, even on the slower songs. Not terribly complex, but a great fusion of punk and metal.

Have Roadrunner actually put out anything relevent lately? Everything on these lists is really old.
