QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE AND DEVIN TOWNSEND NEW SONGS AVAILABLE

Ziltoid the OmniscientQUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and DEVIN TOWNSEND have both made new songs available for streaming today.

Queens of the Stone Age have released their new track entitled “3s & 7s” for streaming today only on their website. Sounds pretty much like good old QOTSA to me. I kind of lost an active interest in this band after the excellent 2002 release Songs for the Deaf, but if you liked Lullabies to Paralyze this is more or less in the same vein. The new CD Era Vulgaris arrives June 12.

Meanwhile Devin Townsend’s new album Ziltoid the Omiscient will be released May 22nd. Devin has made three songs available for streaming on the Ziltoid the Omniscient MySpace page. This is pretty cool stuff on first listen; sonicly it’s not a far cry from STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, based in death metal with perhaps a little more atmospheric flavor by way of keyboards. Townsend’s usual tongue in cheek lyrics are as brilliant as ever, just adjusted for the Ziltoid concept: “I am so omniscient, if there was to be two omnisciences, I would be both! Prepare yourselves for the subjegation!” he scowls in “By Your Command.” On the other hand, “Hyperdrive” is as straight ahead a rock song as I have ever heard from Townsend, but as could be expected, he of the skullet executes perfectly.
