CENTURY INJECT JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF METAL INTO THEIR CORE — BUT DON’T CALL IT METALCORE

30

Century - Black OceanI was skeptical about the latest Prosthetic Records signee Century, and the first time I checked out their music I was unimpressed. But after a glowing review in Decibel magazine I reconsidered and went back to listen again — and you know what? This is a fucking solid band.

I usually don’t go for the brand of chugga-chug hardcore-influenced metal Century peddles, but there’s something about the way this band does it that works for me. Yes, this is still a hardcore-based band, but Century injects just the right amount of metal into just right places to make it fresh. This ain’t metalcore either, as that is now officially a bad word in metal circles — but if the word “metalcore” hadn’t been so bastardized and attached to a very specific Swede-influenced sound, I might call this metalcore. Think closer to Hatebreed and Cave In.

Century just released Black Ocean this past Tuesday, April 29th. Check out several songs from the new release on their MySpace page.
