“1.618”: Allegaeon Play Wheel of Subgenres

Allegaeon have hit a home run with their new song and video, “1.618.” Not only is the track (unsurprisingly) killer, but the video is goddamn hilarious to boot. It manages to satirize an array of metal’s subgenres (black metal, thrash, crabcore, and hair metal), and do it more or less perfectly, There are so many dead-on-great gags in this thing that I can’t even tell if all of them are deliberate or not (did they mean to use a Star of David instead of a pentagram?). Watch:

And in case that didn’t make you happy enough: the song comes from Allegaeon’s just-announced new album, Elements of Infinite! It’s coming out on June 24 via Metal Blade, and can now be pre-ordered here. The cover art is below. If the whole album is as good as “1.618,” we are in for a real treat…
