Today’s List Over Which to Argue: Metal Hammer‘s Ten Essential Nu-Metal Albums

So Metal Hammer has released a new list of “10 Essential Nu-Metal Albums.” You can read the whole thing in detail here, but below is the list with none of the accompanying explanatory text, courtesy of The PRP:

  1. Korn – Korn
  2. Deftones – Around the Fur
  3. Limp Bizkit – Three Dollar Bil, Y’all
  4. Coal Chamber – Coal Chamber
  5. Incubus – S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
  6. (hed)p.e. – (hed)p.e.
  7. Spineshank – Strictly Diesel
  8. Soulfly – Soulfly
  9. System of a Down – System of a Down
  10. Slipknot – Slipknot

Not that I expect you to remember this, but the introductory paragraph of this post is a cut and paste job from a piece I wrote two years ago, when Revolver released a similar list, “Ten Nu-Metal Albums You Need to Own.” A VERY similar lists: the two share a fifty percent overlap of bands (but only a thirty percent overlap of albums, for what it’s worth). I think I personally prefer Revolver‘s list — that one had Mudvayne and Sevendust and did not have Coal Chamber or (hed)p.e. But that’s just me. Maybe you were way into Spineshank back in the day.

It’s interesting to note that neither list includes Disturbed or Staind. So at least we can all agree on that.

ANYWAY,  my counter-list remains the same now as it was two-years ago. You can also check out Vince’s list of The Top 11 Obscure Nu-Metal Albums.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go listen to some Immolation to get this goddamn stink off.
