Listen: Quiet Riot, Smash Mouth, and Santana Meet on “Bangin’ on the Sun”

Smash Mouth’s horrendous megahit “All Star” has become such an overused punchline that it’s easy to forget that the band wasn’t a one hit wonder: in 1997, two years before “All Star,” they broke through with a track called “Walkin’ on the Sun.” Personally, I find it less irritating than “All Star,” although under normal circumstances I still wouldn’t listen to it voluntarily.

Thing is, DJ Cummerbund excels at turning shit into Shinola. From Korn to Disturbed, from Staind to Five Finger Death Punch, from Justin Bieber to Shania Twain, he has made total drek palatable again and again… and, now, AGAIN, by taking the aforementioned “Walkin’ on the Sun” and smash(mouth)ing it together with Quiet Riot’s “Metal Health (Bang Your Head)” and Santana’s iteration of “Oye Como Va.” It’s a real toe tapper.
