Jesu Debut New Song + Video, “Alone”

Since half my brain belongs to an investigative journalist and the other half belongs to a 13-year-old boy, the first thing I noticed about the new Jesu song, “Alone,” is that it is precisely 4:20 long. Jesu mastermind Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh) has been very open about his use of weed. Surely, the song’s running time cannot be mere coincidence!

But no. The song’s lyrics suggest that the only way they pertain to drugs is that their was high when he wrote them:

yes i know so well
that you’ll feed me well
but i just can’t tell
if really i’m your hell

with me the sights are bright
i’m almost a light
am i your sight?
or just a slight?

Interestingly, those lyrics aside, “Alone” is fairly upbeat-sounding by Jesu standards. I mean it’s not The Polyphonic Spree or anything, but still. We may someday yet see Mr. Broadrick smile.

Check out “Alone” via the below music video. Jesu’s new album, Terminus, comes out November 13.
