Pop Star Doja Cat Samples Plini Without His Knowledge

Pop star Doja Cat recently utilized a sample of Plini during a live performance… without the guitarist’s knowdelge.

The performance in question took place at the recent MTV European Vide Music Awards, where Ms. Cat performed a djentified remix of her hit “Say So.” Said remix included a sample of a guitar solo from Plini’s 2016 song, “Handmade Cities.”

This, apparently, was news to Plini:

Still, it seems safe to assume Plini wasn’t mad, ’cause he later retweeted this message from Craig Reynolds, drummer for Stray From the Path:

It seems worth mentioning that Doja Cat has played the Deftones’ own festival, which suggests she at least some metal bona fides.

You can check out both Doja Cat’s “Say So” and Plini’s “Handmade Cities” below.

Plini will release a new album, Impulse Voices, on November 27. Listen to the track “Papelillo” here, and pre-order the album here.
