(hed)p.e. List a Bunch of Places They Know on New Song “Sandmine”

“Sandmine,” the new single from (hed) Planet Earth, a.k.a. (hed)p.e., a.k.a. Hed PE, a.k.a. (həd) p.e., a.k.a (Hed)pe, a.k.a.(Hed)PE, a.k.a. (awf)u.l., is nu-metal’s answer to an educational Sesame Street song: it consists mostly of frontman Jared Gomes shouting out the names of a bunch of different geographic locations amidst some other nonsense before bellowing “SCARS!” a bunch while the band plays what sounds like an old rejected Limp Bizkit demo.

Honestly, even the way these various places get name-dropped is often very weird. The very first thing Gomes shouts during the song is “Batié!”, which is the name of a town in Cameroon. Then he says a bunch of other random shit before adding “Ciao Cameroon” — except the official languages of Cameroon are French and English, not Italian. He repeatedly contrasts the state of Massachusetts with the city of Las Vegas, and complains that he’s “Caught in the wire of the concertinas on the road to Melilla,” although concertinas are not, as far as I can tell, closely associated with Melilla.

Does any of this make sense to you? ‘Cause it feels to me like Gomes wrote these lyrics while suffering from a concussion.

Listen to “Sandmine” below (if you dare) and see whatcha think.
