New Darkane! New Fucking Darkane!

0

Brief history lesson for our younger readers: at the turn of the millennium, there was this wave of melodic death metal bands who basically gave us hope for the future of the genre. Inspired by the success of acts like At The Gates and Dark Tranquility, they all spun off in different directions and staked their claim. In Flames went big and anthemic, Soilwork went proggy and beautiful — and then there were Helsingborg’s Darkane, who went thrashy and chaotic, which is perhaps why they never reached the levels of stardom that those other two bands did. Darkane always felt more death-oriented than their peers, though albums like 2002’s Expanding Senses definitely tried their hands at shimmerier material. Well, now, us and the other smattering of global obsessives can rejoice — because there’s new Darkane on the way!

As reported by our bromantic entanglements over at Metal Injection, Darkane are apparently finished recording their new album. Not only that, but they’re finally reissuing their back catalog across streaming services, which is awesome because it means we can listen to Insanity and Layers of Lies with ease once more.

Here’s what the band said via a Facebook post:

“Album update – It’s finished! ???? News about release date AND release date for our back catalouge on streaming sites as well as on physical copies will be announced soon.

“In the meantime, check out this live clip of the song ‘Execution 44,’ Live at the Highline Ballroom – New York City, Feb 15th 2009.”

Fuck YES! Fun fact, I was actually at this Highline Ballroom show — the only time I’ve ever gotten a chance to see the band live — and they fucking kicked ass all over the place. I think I left before Soilwork because I was only there for Darkane.

Anyway, check out the video below, and keep your eyes peeled for new Darkane in the near future! We’re STOKED.
