Poison’s Rikki Rockett Stands Up for Tourmate Tommy Lee: “He’s Taking a Lot of Heat…I Don’t Think He Should”

A few dates into their long-awaited reunion tour, Mötley Crüe have been the subject of much talk and controversy. A lot of this has centered around drummer Tommy Lee having to be replaced behind the kit a few songs into every set due to broken ribs. Now, Poison drummer Rikki Rockett has said that he thinks Tommy doesn’t deserve the shade that’s being thrown at him.

Speaking to Eddie Trunk on his Sirius XM show (as transcribed here by Blabbermouth), Rockett made it clear that he has no inkling of Tommy’s injury before the first time he left the stage:

“I didn’t know anything about it. I swear I didn’t. I went out and he wasn’t playing. And I’m, like, ‘What the heck is going on, guys?’ So I went back and got the lowdown.”

Rockett followed up by saying that he thinks Tommy is taking a lot of shit for it, when in fact he deserves support:

“He’s taking a lot of heat, and I don’t think he should. Because I think what’s cool about what he’s doing is he’s coming out there and he’s going, ‘This is painful to do it, but I want the audience to know that I’m here. I’m here for the duration. I’m not wussing out on this.’ Instead of running home and sitting six weeks out while he recovers, he’s [out on the road and] he’s part of the team. I think that’s badass.”
